I think thinking of geting away, far far away are inplentened inside our minds sometime during the harsh training of the hearly army, when amazing sotries of other poeple traveling gets to our hears.
For me it was my sisters stories and photos of amazing Brasil, and the voyage of her other classmate around south-america that ignited this desire sometime around late 2003 when I was just begining a service in the Gush-katif area.
But it was mainly the east that was in my mind- Tailand, the ilands, China and Mongolia, I had this fantasie of riding all across the Mongolian desert on a horse with no name...
But at the 25 of december 2004 things turned- the tsunami washed away the shores and the security of the far east, killing a guy from my regiment and another from a neibhoring kibutz, and I was left to deal with the fact that there realy is no place totaly safe out ther.
it was at this same period, a bit north to Hebron, el-halil, that I started reading the book that changed it all- "Back from Tuhichi" by Yosi Ginsberg completly changed my presprective aboute what am I looking for in a journey.
if before I was looking at South-America as a place to dangerous, to expensive and to much for me to deal with, then after reading this book it was clear to me that ther is no other place I`m going to be in other then this continent of great mistery, hiden world and amazing lifestyle.
I´ve made my mind, and after finaly finishing the army I started geting myself ready- I worked hard(to save money) and growed my hair(to see how I would look with). it took me a while to do so so I menaged to do some othrer things in this time- I did my psychometric exams, finished my gimel license, learned snowboarding and learned a bit about the continent I was going to.
Lucky for me, a clasmate of mine, a good freind, throw himself to the continent exactly 1 year before I did, and it was from his mistakes that I learned what to do and what not to do.
the first thing he tought me was to learn spanish... thak him for this, because this his the greatest tip you can get in this continent- LEARN SPANISH! the bigest advantage of this continent on the east is its poeple, 90% of them speaks or understand spanish, and they are very freindly, and very willing to talk and share with you once they get to know you.
I was lucky, and my neibghour, a women from mexican origin accepted to teach me the foundacion of the languige, and it helped like hell.
The time got near, and has I finished my psych exames I was redy to fly- mid March was the date for departure and I had to finish all in time.
life will never be the same once you take off.
